Vegetable Garden Cake

In September of 2014, my mom and I made a cake for a gardening event. We wanted to encourage growing your own vegetables and connecting yourself to nature. Vegetables fresh from the garden not only have more nutrients, but you're also likely to eat more of them. The cake was a vanilla sponge cake topped off with buttercream frosting which was dyed green. The "dirt" was Oreo cookie crumbs, and the vegetables were made out of colored, homemade fondant. My favorite part was piping on the buttercream grass with the special piping tip since there was practically no way to mess up!
