Crossword Cake

My dad and I love solving the New York Times Crossword Puzzles together. Every evening, we solve the daily puzzles as soon as they release. So this year for Father's day, I decided that I was going to make a crossword cake. I started out by making a simple vanilla cake, icing it, and then adding homemade fondant on top. For the crossword itself, I cut out tiny squares from black and white fondant and put them together to resemble the shape of an empty crossword. Lastly, I used an edible marker to add on some letters which spelled out: "Happy Father's Day to the best dad."

When my dad cut the cake, I played the signature NYT crossword tune that plays when you complete the puzzle!
