Blue and Gold Galaxy Cake

This stunning galaxy-inspired cake is definitely one of my favorite cakes that I have ever made!

To start off, I baked a simple vanilla cake and cut out 3 squares from it the night before. I did a crumb coat with a vanilla buttercream and left it in the fridge to harden overnight. The next morning, I applied another layer of buttercream and popped it back into the fridge. While the frosting was hardening, I began to color my fondant. Coloring the fondant took about an hour because I waned to recreate the exact color that I had in mind. I used a combination of blue, red, and pink food coloring to get this beautiful shade of navy blue. After that was done, I rolled out the fondant and covered the cake with it, being careful to keep the edges sharp.

Now that I had a base, I began to splatter edible gold paint all over the cake. Once I was satisfied with how that looked, I applied a sprinkle border on the bottom edges of the cake by sticking on gold sprinkles. I also created shards by melting sugar that I colored blue, and added a gold rim to it with edible gold paint. Lastly, I covered some berries with the edible gold paint and added them on top to tie everything together.
